NUElecture on White-Box AI @ Neues Museum Nürnberg

On November 15, 2022, Prof. Dr. Patrick Zschech gave a presentation on the topic “White-Box-AI: Transparent decision support based on interpretable machine learning models“. The presentation was part of the lecture series #NUElecture, which was organized in cooperation with NEUES MUSEUM NÜRNBERG. The #NUElectures format offers a citizen-friendly platform for science communication to actively disseminate findings to a broader audience and to take up suggestions from it. WiSo researchers present innovative research results in a tangible, understandable and exciting way at various locations in the city.
In his presentation, Patrick Zschech provided an overview of current developments in the field of white-box AI. He demonstrated that modern machine learning models do not necessarily have to be opaque black-box models and can still be capable of achieving competitive prediction qualities. This is highly relevant for a wide range of application scenarios where critical decisions have to be made on a daily basis, such as in healthcare, finance or justice.
After the presentation, a lively discussion took place, where various questions and specific points were underpinned with individual experiences, critical reflections, and future perspectives with the full audience.
For those interested who were unable to attend the event that evening, we have made the slide set publicly available: NUElecture_WhiteBoxAI_handout
